ForsythiasForsythias is a project inspired by an artistic collaboration with artist Erin Haldrup. Erin Haldrup and Katherine Chilcote created large scale paintings of the Forsythia bush installed on an abandoned gas station in Ohio City. This project was supported by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and The Gund Foundation and created as part of our annual Summer Mural Institute.
The exploration of how to place a form as simple as a painting of a spring flower onto a structure as rough and rugged as an old gas station inspired us to work out of the space and decorate the sky above us as well with banners of paintings. The banners installed on telephone poles read like large scale books, and stood as totems of what will come. The set of banners were done so in the shape of an open book, tilted outward towards the sun. |
